We are aware of the uses of the plant Aloe Vera and specially its medicinal value. It is a natural herb used for curing internal as well as external problems. Common problems like skin rashes, ulcers, burns, constipation and arthritis can be easily cured. It also helps in curing insomnia and indigestion among many other problems.

These days Aloe Vera is easily available in the form of creams, lotions and gels. Though Aloe Vera is very beneficial for mankind it does have its side effects in some cases. Long use of Aloe Vera can result in the loss of potassium, hematuria. It can sometime cause loss of fluid on the body. The loss of potassium causes weakness in muscles along with irregular heartbeats.

Aloe VeraThere are many instances when the consumption of Aloe Vera should be avoided. A child should never be given Aloe Vera even as a medicine. A pregnant lady, a nursing mother, person having abdominal problems should in no way use Aloe Vera. It should also avoided by patients who have undergone laparotomy. People suffering from appendicitis, inflamed intestine and ulcers should avoid using Aloe Vera in any form. A person consuming Aloe Vera due to medical reasons should immediately stop its consumption if their urine changes its colour to red or pink. A patient taking medication for cardiac glycosides should not take aloe vera even for medical reasons. One should not consume aloe vera in any form without the advice of the doctor.

Proper medical guidance should be taken even before drinking the juice of aloe vera. Dehydration, intestinal spasms and stomach cramps usually occurs with regular intake of aloe vera. People should follow strict instructions given to them when aloe vera is prescribed as a medicine. Overdose of the medicine can cause diarrhea and kidney problems. Many people can also be allergic to aloe vera and consumption of it can prove to be a dangerous one. Sometimes aloe vera can also have some ill effects on the skin.

Though aloe vera has medicinal properties, it does have some bad effects and should be taken only under proper medical guidance.
