The name though sounds as there are such foods that contribute to our body negatively but the fact is that actually negative calorie foods are not that, basically there are certain food items which do not contribute so much nutritionally and rather they require more energy to get digested. Thus negative calorie foods are those which require more energy for digestion than their nutrition content and as a result consuming them finally leads us to a loss of energy. These food items are generally added in the diet charts of such people who are undergoing weight-loss treatment. The reason behind this is it meets a patient’s hunger but does not have too much calorie content so as to provide him nutritionally and he or she does not regain fat, rather negative calorie foods are good for such patients because in turn they lose more energy to even digest them. But for normal people it is not advisable to limit their food consumption to these negative calorie foods because it can finally leads to malnutrition.

It is considered that the simplest and easiest way to increase metabolism by burning fat is to have negative calorie foods. The reason behind this is on one hand by consuming food items like this we burn excess calories or fat in our body and on the other hand we also burn more calories than what these food items contain within them. Thus it is highly prescribed to have food items like these in our diet so that we do not gain more fat or calories. In order to burn fat it is also advisable to exercise along with maintaining a healthy diet with negative calorie foods. The effectiveness of exercising along with dieting is it burns fat immediately. Actually this category of food is mainly limited to vegetables and fruits and unless someone is vegetarian by nature then it might become a problem for him to adjust to a diet like this. Some food items which fall under this category are apple, pineapple, strawberries, mango, lemon, orange etc in fruits and cauliflower, green cabbage, beans, garlic, cucumber etc in vegetables.
